Ankle Sprain
Ankle sprains are one of the most common orthopedic injuries seen by medical and rehabilitation providers. The most common type of ankle sprain is called an ‘inversion sprain’ and involves an inward turning of the ankle joint (see image), which can damage ligaments and other soft tissue structures located on the outside of the ankle.
Successful rehabilitation of this condition involves the implementation of exercises that work to restore ankle joint mobility and neuromuscular control. Mobility drills are designed to maintain joint range of motion as this can often become limited during the healing process. Neuromuscular training teaches the body how to better control the ankle in order to reduce the likelihood of suffering another sprain in the future.
If you have experienced an ankle sprain, make sure to check out our ankle sprain program where you can learn exercises that will help reduce pain, improve neuromuscular control and reduce the risk of being injured again.
